First Look: tomtom GPS app for iphone 3G/3GS(USA/Canada)

Featured Video

After over two months of anticipation, the tomtom turn-by-turn GPS app for the iphone 3G and 3GS is finally here. I took it for a spin and here are my first impressions. Overall, it seems to be a competent navigation system with some interesting features, but considering its price tag, it didn’t blow us away to reign supreme in the category. I’ll follow this first look up in a week or two after more thorough testing. Please subscribe to the youtube channel and keep up-to-date! I’m a big fan of Tomtom, but one thing I never liked about it is the lag. Driving with it, it seems the lag is constantly there, and it is especially bad when you make a turn (and Tomtom takes 3-5 seconds before showing it). Sometimes, it show that you actually went past the turn before recalibrating itself,

This lag made some turns extremely difficult, but otherwise, Tomtom has always been pretty good.

TomTom’s GPS sucks. It’s so awkward to use.

The issue with Google Maps or the majority of low cost navigation apps is the lack of a downloaded complete map. Because of this, they require a constant data connection to operate and are not as reliable. TomTom has the complete map with all POIs and more housed within the device, and therefore requires no data connection at all.

he had it zoomed out at the end
