How to Adapt / Mount A Car GPS to a Motorcycle
Featured Video
Here’s how I used my existing Garmin car GPS for a quick, cheap, temporary, & occasional solution. You’ll lose a mirror, can’t hear audible commands, and it requires running off batteries, so it’s not for eveyrone. A motorcycle GPS would be ideal.

lifisgood070 – I considered that for a long term solution, but frankly, I think I’m due for a TomTom Rider2 motorcycle GPS for my next bike. I like the idea of mounting a cigarette adapter to the bike, since there are tons of other stuff I could power, such as my Kodak camera!
You can get a cheap cigarette adapter too… I just spliced the wires & connected it to the battery. Then I ran it with an extra charger & a bunch of other wires up to the tac (so i know it wouldn’t get too hot). … then you got power on your gps
.
i just went on E, bay and entered bar end mirror paid about £30 for a pair from a guy with a shop in japan got em inside of a week aswell
zenpokaiten – Yeah, I was thinking of putting a bar-end mirror, so that should fix the problem.
madbiker53 – Hey, can you tell me what bar end mirror you ended up getting? I’m trying to avoid dropping $100 on one… there must be cheaper ones out there…
cheers for this you stopped me from now tearing my hair out i got a bar end mirror and i now can mount my GPS to the mirror cheers problem solved
That’s a pretty neat way to install your gps w/o special mounts. Maybe you could mitigate the loss of the mirror somewhat by adding a small fish-eye type mirror?
havedogwillscooter – It will still work on round mirrors, even though the mirrors may be smaller. The velcro does a great job holding things together.
Thanks Rob.
Ive been trying to find a way to mount my GPS, this is cool… except my mirrors are round. I kind of want to try a ram mount, but i think its going to stick up and look ridiculous.
cool, thanks for that idea.
Muttley196 – Yeah, this was just a temporary / occasional solution. We were on another island and got lost looking for the right resort… I didn’t want to whip it out unless I had to.
Perfect job! That is a fantastic idea. Thanks
Awesome! Great job. I wouldn’t do this since I’d miss the mirror very much, but it does inspire me to try dream up similar velcro-based solutions.
Nice idea, one critisim I do have is of the ease of attachment/removal. The problem with leaving a GPS attached to a parked motorcycle are evident. Nice idea though!
Very innovative. :^)
Awesome idea…5 stars to you…
Good Job!
cashstore1 – Very good question. I didn’t even think about addressing that. I’m right handed, and prefer to use my right hand if I could. However, the clutch side of the bike is on the left, and I find that’s the hand that’s usually free. I rarely take my right hand off the gas / brake.
Wicked idea Rob, nice
Very clever. I just bought a gps for my car about the same size as yours. I wanted to use it for my motorcycles and was starting to think of ways of mounting it. Like you, I did not want to spend the 4 to 5 hundred dollars for a special motorcycle gps. Is there any reason you picked the left side as oppose to the right mirror? It seems that you would need the left side more often unless you are constantly driving in the speed lane.
that is such a good idea! thanks for a sharing
