    It depends on what you want it for. For car navigation and no land (hiking, etc) then either one is a good choice. Tom Tom is not very good (if usefull at all) for land navigation. Garmin has models that are good for both. Tom Tom is new in the GPS business where Garmin has been around forecver, Tom Tom is more expensive. For my money Garmin is the way to go. It has proven itself in Military and Civillian applications for years.

    Today’s GPS units all work fairly well. The biggest difference used to be the maps, be even the maps are similar. User configurabilty and map update costs are important considerations.
